City of Malmö

As Communications Officer at the City of Malmö's Municipal Council Department, I had broad communications responsibilities for the city's political leadership. The work ranged from strategic planning and production of political campaigns to daily citizen dialog. I produced content in the form of press releases, photos, videos and social media material, and was responsible for the development of the party's local website. In addition to the communication tasks, I was also centrally involved in policy development.

The work provided valuable insight into how the political work in a border region works, and the specific opportunities and challenges that exist in the Danish-Swedish cooperation. This experience has given me an insight into the importance of cross-border dialogue and cooperation in the Öresund region.

Barack Obama's special

envoy against anti-Semitism,

Ira Forman, visit to Malmö 2015

In 2015, President Barack Obama's Special Envoy on Anti-Semitism, Ira Forman, visited Malmö to meet with representatives of the Jewish minority, children and young people from the city, and the political leadership of Malmö. Ira Forman's predecessor, Hannah Rosenthal, had visited Malmö a few years earlier and during that visit had strongly criticized the political leadership in Malmö for its handling of increased anti-Semitism in the city.

Prior to Ira Forman's visit, we made very thorough preparations. On the one hand, the political leadership had already taken a number of measures to combat anti-Semitism and support the Jewish minority in the city, and on the other hand, we managed to communicate a clear perception that the political leadership in Malmö took the issue very seriously. Ahead of the visit, we compiled a report, in Swedish and English, on the City of Malmö's actions against anti-Semitism and in support of Jewish life in Malmö, which was submitted to Barack Obama's Special Envoy Ira Forman.

At the closing press conference, held jointly by Mr. Forman and Katrin Stjernfeldt-Jammeh, Chair of the Municipal Executive Board, Mr. Forman expressed his support for the political leadership of the municipality, noting that the situation had improved significantly and that the political leadership was now part of the solution.

Metropolitan seminar

in Öresundshuset, Almedalen 2015

During Almedalen Week 2015, the City of Malmö hosted a metropolitan seminar at Öresundshuset in Almedalen. Invited panelists were the chairmen of the municipal boards of the three major cities, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö, and Sweden's Minister of Finance Magdalena Andersson.

The aim of the seminar was to highlight the unique role and future challenges of large cities, focusing on education, jobs, entrepreneurship, culture and leisure, as well as the challenges posed by growing disparities in living conditions and health.

During the seminar, the representatives of the three cities signed a political declaration of intent, called the "Metropolitan Agenda for Sweden".

My task was to arrange the seminar in collaboration with the three cities' organizations, as well as the Öresund House in Almedalen (former Öresund Committee, now Greater Copenhagen), invite the Minister of Finance, create interest and attention for the seminar and document and communicate in social media from the seminar.

National Day movie, 2016

For Sweden's National Day 2016, I was commissioned to produce a video greeting from the Social Democrats in Malmö and the chairman of the municipal board Katrin Stjernfeldt-Jammeh. My idea was to showcase Malmö's great diversity in the population and link it to a message of community and democracy. The film was published in the Social Democrats in Malmö's social media channels and received very wide distribution.
